What is Inventor
Inventor is a computer tool from Autodesk that specializes in turning 2D sketches into 3D objects. In our case, we sketched 6 widgets and then modeled them into becoming 3D objects. To create our objects, we did a lot of dimensioning to make the object look like the original sketch. In order to make the object 3D, we also had to extrude the 2D sketch to turn it into a 3D object. Inventor can used for 3D printing objects which is why we were able to 3D print one of our widgets on MakerBot, a 3D printing aid.

Steps to creating a widget
Widget #5
I then sketched out the back view of the widget which lead to the dimensioning of the widget and trimming off the excess lines. After the sketch, I then extruded the widget. The picture below shows the widget being extruded to 1 inch which I fixed later on to becoming 1/4 of an inch.
After extruding the widget back to 1/4 of an inch subsequently, I extruded a 3D rectangle out of the bottom of the widget with the dimensions of 1" by .75" by .25". Next, in order to complete the widget, I had to cut out a rectangular prism on the base. The dimensions for the rectangular prism were .5" by .25" by .25". I extruded the rectangle backwards into the widget to obtain the finishing product of a beauty.
